Biography
Shirley Bryan was born, resides, and maintains a studio in Pensacola, Florida, and began drawing and painting at age 2 and never stopped. She began lessons with regionally acclaimed artist Manuel G. Runyan at age 10, who studied at the Art Students League in NYC. He gave her a firm foundation in drawing and color theory.
After Graduating from Pensacola Junior College with an Associate’s Degree in Art Education, Shirley studied 8 more years in PJC Adult Art Education classes. During that time, she joined the just formed Quayside Art Gallery. The Gallery would bring in some of the best-known artists in the US to teach 5 day workshops each year and Shirley attended most all offered. At that time, no other area gallery offered comparable workshops.
She has taught advanced classes in acrylics and has led many area workshops. She now works in acrylics, watercolors, alcohol inks and mixed media and has been a juror for regional shows and exhibits. She has been featured in many one-person shows and involved in invitational and juried shows in much of the Southeast, earning numerous awards. Her paintings have been featured in Victoria Magazine, Watercolor Magic Magazine, the cover of Pensacola Magazine and some of her works were used to create 5 different limited edition Christmas Ornaments for the Goodwill Easter Seals of the Gulf Coast.
Her artwork hangs in private and corporate collections worldwide. She was invited to be a Signature Member of the Florida Watercolor Society and the Southern Watercolor Society. She was a Charter Member of the National Museum of Women in the Arts, and was a member of the Pensacola Museum of Art, the Pensacola Arts Council and is a Lifetime Member of Quayside Gallery.
