Biography

I demonstrated an early affinity for drawing and I took my first formal art class at the Mint Museum of Art in Charlotte, NC while I was in middle school.  While I loved art, I decided to major in biology in college.  Of course, my favorite part of the curriculum was doing the sketches for lab!  It wasn’t until I completed my master’s degree in microbiology that I took a class in watercolor.  After completing my formal education in the science field, I was able to attend artists’ workshops to feed my thirst for experience in the art world.

Although I paint in acrylics and oils, watercolor is my joy.  Watercolor offers challenges that inspire me.  I enjoy planning paintings and then allowing accidents to happen.  I am inspired by transforming plain white paper into a celebration of light and color by interpreting form as an interplay of patterns of light and dark.  I appreciate that each watercolor pigment has its own personality that should be discovered.
