Joyce Leggett

Joyce is an abstract realism artist from Excel, Alabama, now living in Pensacola, Florida. Her creative journey has been one of perseverance and passion. Though she couldn’t take art classes as a child, she won first place in an art contest at age eight — an early spark that affirmed her talent. After earning a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a real estate license, Joyce eventually returned to her first love: art. She has since taught elementary art and now paints professionally.

Joyce’s recent works reflect her deep love of music — she’s also a singer. Her paintings often feature single or grouped instruments set against softly blended backgrounds. Through layered textures of oil or acrylic, she creates harmonious color compositions that visually echo the rhythms of blues, jazz, and gospel. Her art transforms musical instruments into storytellers — symbols of history, resilience, and connection — inviting viewers not just to see the music, but to feel it.

Recognized as a 2024 Emerging Artist at the Great Gulf Coast Arts Festival, Joyce’s work has been exhibited at the Pensacola Museum of Art and Quayside Art Gallery. She joined Quayside Art Gallery in July 2025, and her paintings can also be found at Angels Garden in Pensacola.
