Fred’s only artistic work was music until he discovered woodturning about ten years ago. His current work includes wooden vases, bowls, platters, lidded boxes and other creations. He has studied with several nationally known artists and is constantly working to improve his skills. His work involves the use of many types of wood. Some of the exotic woods fromAustraliaandSouth Americacan be spectacular. Many local woods are very beautiful as well. He produces work for the Gallery as well as some commission pieces.

His work has been exhibited at The Pensacola Museum of Art and several other galleries. Being associated with the fine artists at Quayside is a real pleasure.

I’ve always loved art. My grandmother painted oil portraits in Atlanta, Georgia. She made sure I started early in life so I would love art and of course follow in her footsteps. I started with drawing, then oil painting, then pottery and then glass.

I studied life drawing, oil painting and sculpture at the Universityof California atFullertonand Laguna School of Art and Design and studied oil painting with Marshall Merritt, Griselda Gil de Ie Torre, and Judy Sleight.

My latest endeavor, since moving toFlorida, is making glass bead seashell jewelry. Jewelry is one of my loves so that was a natural. I started making glass bead seashells in my studio 6 years ago. I now do beach/seashell themed jewelry and complement the jewelry with seascapes in oil.

Quickly becoming known as just “B” the artist, Betty has always known the love of scribbling, coloring and drawing. B works in a variety of mediums, believing the most important aspects of being an artist is enjoying what she does and encouraging others to step boldly into what God has put into their hands. In 2005, B realized God had a plan to use her art for His glory. She is stepping into the ministry call as artist/retreat speaker, excited to be a part of God’s great handiwork of “creating a change” in the lives of many. B travels solo and with “Extreme Encouragement Events” to various cities with Proverbs 31 ministrie’s Luann Prater and Friends from
Encouragement Cafe.

B teaches art in her backyard “Studio B” and has received several top awards including “Best of Show” and
“Peoples Choice” for her art. B the artist is most noted for her painting, THE WALK TO EMMAUS which is currently on loan to THE UPPER ROOM MINISTRIES, Emmaus International Offices in Nashville, TN. When not getting paint all over her or working as a graphic artist she loves to spend time with her husband, Denny, and “praying” Schnauzer Hummer in their Gulf Breeze, Florida home and being grandma. Her work is exhibited at Quayside Gallery in historic downtown Pensacola and available on her websites www.emmauspainting.com or www.bettyshoopman.com

“A photograph by Frank Brueske is an instant of time captured forever” Originally from Southeastern Minnesota, Frank now resides in Pace, FL. He has been has been capturing those “instant of times” for more than 60 years. His passion for photography came alive one evening as he watched a cousin make black & white prints in a makeshift darkroom. His world would be forever changed after that night.

Specializing in black and white photography, his life’s journey has taken him around the world. His photographs reflect the many different faces of life ranging from the French Quarter in New Orleans, the cobblestone streets of Prague to the shorelines of rivers and oceans. While his passion is black and white photography, he has started to capture the beautiful scenery of the gulf coast in digital color. His photographs have appeared world-wide.

In his retirement years he has produced three solo exhibit themes, “Vintage American on Parade,” “ Barnscapes and Other Scenes” and “Doorways of the French Quarter.” He is currently working on two others.

He develops his own film and makes all of his own black and white silver gelatin (darkroom) prints. He also prints his own black and white and color glicees.

Carol began painting in watercolors sixteen years ago, using a wet-into wet technique to create lovely, award-winning landscapes and florals.

In the last few years she has moved into making collages, and painting in acrylics in bolder, more expressive colors, learning from national instructors, such as collage and design artist Gerald Brommer, as well as from the many classes and workshops given by local award-winning artists Pat Regan, Valerie Aune and Joan Blackburn.

Carol’s abstract acrylics are full of deep color and strong emotion, as can be seen in a recent impressionistic work, “In the Midst of the Storm.” This seascape was influenced by her roots in California, where she grew up camping along its rugged coast. Other paintings have been inspired by the the Gulf Coast, Smokey Mountains and her many stays in England and France. As she paints the landscapes she loves, she hopes her impressions of their beauty will resonate with the viewer.
