Sharon James did not start painting until after retirement. She has always enjoyed viewing Fine Art, but never tried to produce any art work. So she started classes at Northwest Florida State College (NWFSC).Thanks to the wonderful encouragement from the Visual Arts faculty of NWFSC she has found her passion. Sharon continues to take classes at NWFSC and is only 5 classes away from a Visual Arts degree. She also enjoys taking workshops and learning from her painting colleagues.
She has been fortunate enough to exhibit and place in numerous local and regional juried shows. Sharon was also asked to participate in an invitational show of four artists in April 2010 at The Arts and Design Society Organization (ADSO) in Ft. Walton Beach, FL. Sharon has also had her work chosen to be included in the ADSO calendar for four years.
Sharon’s work has been published in “The Blackwater Review, A Journal of Literature and Art” in the 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010 publications. Her work is in several collections in the United States, Canada, and England. Sharon also has commissioned work in Canada.
Sharon paints in watercolor and uses fluid acrylics in the watercolor method. She also enjoys painting with mixed media, oils and pastels. Sharon is a member of The Arts and Design Society Organization in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida and the Artel Gallery in Pensacola, Florida as well as Quayside, also in Pensacola.
Artist Statement: Being such a new artist, I have not yet “found” my favorite medium or genre. The two things I have learned is that I love vibrant color and subjects with complicated negative spaces. Because of those two loves, many paintings reflect the beauty of nature. I don’t know what life may bring, but I know I shall try to paint through it!
